We all know that eating loads of fruit and veg is good for you, right! But what really does that mean? It is recommended that adults have five serves of vegies per day and two serves of fruit. Yet only 7.6% of Australian men and 10.9% of woman surveyed consumed the recommended 5 serves of vegies each day.1
A lifetime habit of eating adequate amounts of fruit and vegetables every day can help prevent2:
- Coronary heart disease
- Some forms of cancer
- Weight issues and obesity
- Constipation
It can also
- Reduce blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
- Improve control of diabetes
Potatoes are a good source of fibre and low in fat and are one of the best foods to make you feel full so you don’t eat as much (known as satiety).
For a super healthy low fat meal, top your spuds with a range of fresh produce such as broccoli, beetroot, pineapple and tomato. Top it off with some dill yoghurt or hommus and you have a tasty meal, extremely low in fat, with your 5 serves of vegies.
Along with our lovely range of fresh vegies, the other low fat toppings include the mild chilli bean, curried lentil dahl, tabouli and salsa.
