What support do you provide?

Being part of a franchise system means that often used term of “being in business for yourself not by yourself”. Prior to opening, Spudbar provides an intensive 3 week training course, site selection support, assistance with lease negotiations and management of the fit out of your store.  After the store has opened, the support continues with in store support during your opening week, local area marketing assistance, national brand building activities and marketing campaigns along with close operational support.  Spudbar also provides a centralized bookkeeping service.   Our franchisees love this aspect of the support (unless you have a background as an accountant!).  It frees them up to do what they are supposed to do -grow their business and ensure customers are happy.
A secure web portal provides online ordering, marketing material requests and access to the other franchisees in the Spudbar family.
Every second month the franchisees in each state get together to hear what’s new, share information and generally network with each other.  As our national operations grow, we are excited to begin a national franchisee conference.

What are you looking for in a franchisee?

Our franchisees are a big part of the customer’s experience of Spudbar.  So it is very important to us that the right kind of people join the Spudbar family.  We are looking for people who are excited to get up every morning, knowing they are driving the success of their own business.  Regardless of your background, we are looking for franchisees that are:

  • Passionate people that are committed to working hard in their store
  • Driven to achieve
  • Focused on their customers
  • Happy to work within a system

Obviously you also need the capital to be able to open a Spudbar store which is a minimum of $150,000.

Am I required to work in the store?

Yes.  The most successful stores are those run by a franchisee that works in the store.   Nothing can a replace a dedicated, passionate owner who has a vested interest in making the business a success.

Can I own more than one Spudbar store?

If you do a great job of making your first store a success, we would love to talk to you about becoming a multi unit franchisee and how together we can ensure all of your stores are equally successful.

So…how much?

For a store that is built, stocked and ready to go you are looking at an investment of between $150,000 and $250,000.  This includes our franchise fee, site selection, shop fit-out, equipment, signage, 3 week training course - in fact everything you need.  The actual cost will vary depending on a number of things including the location and store size.

Fitout costs are lower than other food franchise systems that provide hot food because of the simple cooking operation.  No deep fryer or grill also means no grease trap - all high cost items!

The current franchisee fee of $35,000 is included in this investment figure.  The franchise fee covers things such as site selection and lease negotiation support, the initial training and opening support.
Franchisees pay an on-going royalty of 7% of gross monthly sales.  An additional 3% is paid as a marketing levy which is spent on marketing activities that strengthen the Spudbar brand and therefore the number of customers through your front door!  Franchisees are also expected to conduct their own local area marketing activities which cement Spudbar as a member of the local community.

Why should I choose Spudbar?

Spudbar is a great choice for many people considering a franchise because it:

  • Is accessible.  Setup costs are low because of small space requirements and minimal cooking equipment
  • Is a simple operation.  With no deep fryers or grilling  Spudbar is an easy transition into hospitality and retail
  • Prepares franchisees for managing a store and staff.  Spudbar provides an intensive  3 week training course  prior to opening,  on-site support  for your start in-store and ongoing training for both the franchisee and their staff
  • Provides great support.   Operational support and centralised book keeping lets franchisees run their business rather than get bogged down in paperwork.
  • Maximises margins.  Spudbar deals directly with the growers to get the best prices on our core ingredients - it means more money to the franchisees.
